Solidaridad Yago School

By showing solidarity, in Yago School, what we are trying to do is be aware of the needs of others and commit ourselves to helping them. In order to do this, we need to put ourselves in others’ situation, and try to imagine what it must be like to be in their shoes. What we aim to do is to make people see what is going on in the world and what can be done, and in this way instill a desire to help.

Throughout the school year, different events will take place in Yago School to help and show our solidarity to this and other causes.

With this in mind, we have chosen to do our best to help Father Juan Fernández Salvador, a priest originally from Seville but who has spent the past years in Hualmay (Peru). Father Juan does remarkable work with the people of this village. At this moment in time, he is, along with the help of the village people, building a school for 1,000 children (many of who have special needs), a place where they receive a daily meal along with a desperately needed education.

Hualmay is made up of 23 settlements whose peoples come from different parts of the Andes mountain range, 150 km from Lima on the Pacific coast.

The families of Hualmay live in conditions of extreme poverty, lacking water and electricity. The average salary does not cover basic needs such as food or clothes, housing or education.
